Today’s most significant challenge was WIND. We had 25 mph winds with gusts up to 40mph for our whole ride. We had quieter roads, from a traffic perspective, for almost all of our 32 miles today which was a blessing. The roads were rough terrain but we hardly noticed as we were just trying to move forward against the wind. We would get a short break in the wind, just enough to let our guard down and then get blasted again. It was particularly tough on the 4 mile stretch of highway which was open fields on both sides with no break whatsoever from the wind. As is true everyday, we were happy to see Marie for a quick break after 10 plus miles. We got a break from the wind and warmed up. We met a few dogs along the way but once we slowed down or stopped they lost interest and we went on our way.

We stopped in Bonham, Texas as it was our ending point today and decided to not go further even though we had only gone 32 miles. Sam donned his “Autumn in Bonham” shirt gifted to him from the chamber of commerce back in 2009 and we took his picture in the town square.

We also found a good bbq spot for lunch, Hickory BBQ. I got the hickory club which was ham and sausage on a bun with melted cheese. It was delicious! As we left the restaurant and got hit by another gust of wind, Marie shouted out that she hates Texas - awkward! Fortunately, no one heard her so no explaining to do 😊.

Tomorrow is expected to be warm with little wind so it should be a good final ride with Sam as he heads home Sunday and we want him to leave with fond memories.
