We headed to Eutaw to start our last leg in Alabama. We got off to a slow start due to road construction. We had to ride on the sidewalk and then walk part of the route. Then the road was smooth and enjoyable. We met Marie at a quick rest break and she let us know that there was a truck accident ahead and we either had to wait it out or take a little longer detour. We chose the latter and it turned into a nice ride. Before we knew it we had reach our original stopping point in Aliceville, AL but realized we were only 13 miles from the MS border. We had a wonderful lunch at Angie's restaurant. Marie had spotted it after she noticed several cars from the local sheriffs department there enjoying lunch. She has a good knack for these things. After lunch, we decided to make it a 45 mile day and cross the border from AL into MS. It is always a thrill to pass from one state into the next plus a personal best for mileage. The roads were flatter during the last part of AL and into MS. Although we are in the "Black Belt" which indicates the soil transitioning from red to black topsoil but also often relates to the local culture. The soil change has not obvious to us as of yet as we still see a fair amount of red clay. We did see the farming shift from pine farms to beef and some catfish.
