Monday, Kay joined me for our first ride of the week. No surprise to me, she is a very strong biker and fun to be with! We lathered ourselves with sunscreen, filled our water bottles with ice water and gatorade and set off. It was a chilly start but that made for a really enjoyable first 15 miles. Route 380 continued to have a nice shoulder and the surface was ok - on and off rough. Traffic was light so we rode side by side and chatted away. We rode for a total of 42 miles and with each passing mile the sun got stronger and we shed our extra layers. By the end of the ride it was 91 degrees. I had to make multiple stops to drink water/gatorade as I have not mastered biking and drinking at the same time. I was a wet noodle by the end of the ride and there was no shade to be found.

We headed to our hotel for the night - Hotel Garza B&B in Post Texas. It is a charming historic hotel. The town was founded by CW Post in early 1907 who invented Grapenuts and other Post cereals. The hotel is full of antiques, has a charming courtyard and a very nice hostess. We were happy with our decision to stay here for two nights.

We walked around town a little and found a local restaurant for dinner. We were especially pleased with the option of free soft serve ice cream with every meal and we did indeed take advantage of that. On our way to dinner we passed a meat processing plant and the sign said it had "world famous beef jerky" (a claim that was backed up by the locals).
