We finished the first week!

The day started out cold. It was 39 degrees at 8am. We waited until 10am to set out and the temperature was about 42 degrees by then and rose to about 64 degrees by 1pm. The wind was lighter and the roads were good. We passed a lot of fields of "row crops" and the traffic Was lighter. We only passed one logging truck and two semis which we attribute to it being Saturday. You notice roadkill more when you are on a bike and not only is it visually obvious but there is often a smell that is overwhelming. Today we experienced more roadkill than some other days.

The agriculture has changed as we have moved through the state. Through the first half of the state, we saw a lot of cotton fields and pine tree farms. We are still seeing some pine tree farms and cotton but we are now seeing more pecan tree and peach tree orchards. All the tree farms are beautiful in their symmetry. We all especially think the pecan trees are beautiful.

We finished the week with a nice dinner and I had a gin and tonic. It was a nice end to the week and we anticipate relaxing, grocery shopping and doing laundry on Sunday, day 7, so the next post will jump to day 8.

Wish us luck on week two!
